From a Sponsored Child to Intern:
Elvice's Inspiring Journey of Transformation

Elvice Ouma Onyango possessed exceptional intelligence and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. However, his family’s limited financial means seemed to stand in the way of his aspirations for quality education. Despite the obstacles he faced, Elvice’s determination and a fortunate turn of events opened the door to a life-changing opportunity.

In 2011, Elvice enrolled at Patmos Cottage School for fifth grade. He was a polite and obedient student, something that was confirmed by his teachers. He sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2014, achieving a remarkable score of 348 out of 500. This achievement secured his admission to Gendia Boys High School for secondary education, bringing great pride and joy. Motivated by his vision of transforming his family’s circumstances through academic excellence, Elvice dedicated himself to excelling in high school.

In 2019, he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
(KCSE) exams and attained an impressive B+ grade, scoring 70
out of 82 points. This outstanding performance paved the way
for Elvice to realize his dream of attending The University of
Nairobi. In 2020, thanks to the support of a scholarship program
by Yatima Outreach, Elvice joined the university to pursue a
Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance. The
scholarship covered his tuition fees, and accommodation, and even
provided him with a laptop for personal studying and
assignments.

Now in his fourth year of studies, Elvice seized an opportunity to intern at Yatima Outreach Organization in the Finance Department. This chance to give back to the same organization that had supported him throughout the years filled him with immense excitementand gratitude.
Elvice’s journey from being a scholarship beneficiary to interning at Yatima Outreach Organization is a testament to the transformative power of education and the positive influence of organizations that believe in the potential of everychild’s dream.
His story serves as an inspiration to countless others, reminding
them that dreams can indeed become a reality with determination, hard work,and the right support.
