Psalm 68:5 “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.”
Child Abuse
Child abuse is a common phenomenon in Kenya especially in rural and urban slum set ups. Yatima Outreach organization is keen on protecting children from all forms of abuse including harmful cultural practices common among the Maasai community in Narok County. Statistics show that child abuse rate in Kenya stands at 40%. This is very alarming thus the need to protect children against all forms of abuse.
In Kenya, child abuse is a common phenomenon especially in urban slums set-up such as Mathare and rural areas such as Mechimeru, Bungoma and Naisoya, Narok, who practice harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as well as early marriages. Yatima seeks to protect children from all forms abuse through; sensitization forums at the household level, school and the community. We also protect children from abusive environments through rescue and provision of emotional and medical support to the affected victims of abuse.
Adoption
This is an initiative that started in early 2021 in partnership with Buckner Kenya to provide a conducive home environment for abandoned and neglected children through adoption and foster care. Our social workers in liaison with Buckner Kenya social workers do the necessary assessments to determine families willing to adopt but lack the financial capacity to meet the legal requirements. Such families are thus supported financially through payment of legal fees to process the legal requirements.
