This is Velma’s Story (*not her real name)

Velma is 18 years from a family of 6. She is the first born. She completed her grade 8 year 2020/21 and comes from a vulnerable background and lives with her grandparents after her parents separated following marital conflicts. Counseling sessions were proven futile to reconcile the two. She had no hopes of pursuing her high school studies with the presenting situation of vulnerability.

It took the invervention of social workers and the management through follow-ups pursuing parental responsibility but in vain. Neither of the parents was reachable to commit to parental responsibility. Velma would save little money collected from her hair dressing talent and secured a few essentials to enable her join high school. She would visit the social worker office for counseling and encouragement even after the rest of student had joined. It was such a challenge meeting the school requirements and school fees on her own.

The social workers shared her story with Orphan Outreach head office. Orphan Outreach intervened and fully supported Velma with school fees and shopping that saw her report to Mungore Girls high school. She was so delighted for the support and she remains grateful for to Orphan Outreach management for intervening. Despite her reporting late, she attained mean grade of B- and she promises to work hard in school and help others. Thank you Orphan Outreach for restoring hope in Velma. God bless you.
